KELA compensations

Starting from January 1, 2024, general and specialist doctor visits in private medical care will be reimbursed with 30 €, and for remote consultations with 25 €, while visits to a psychiatrist will be reimbursed with 30-40 €, depending on the duration of the visit. Kela reimbursement is also available for visits, examinations, and treatments provided by a specialist dentist, as prescribed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon or dentist/specialist dentist.

From May 1, 2025, Kela will start reimbursing physiotherapy visits up to 4 times per calendar year. The reimbursement amount has not yet been confirmed. Physiotherapy can be accessed without a doctor’s referral. No Kela reimbursement will be provided for physiotherapy after the 4th visit, even if the treatment is prescribed by a doctor.

Please note the following regarding Orton’s Kela reimbursements

  • At Orton Tenholantie, Kela reimbursement can be obtained for visits to doctors and physiotherapists who work as independent practitioners, in accordance with the applicable reimbursement rules (not all specialists work as independent practitioners).
  • The reimbursement eligibility is indicated on each specialist’s online profile.
  • Visits to doctors working in HUS facilities are not eligible for Kela reimbursement.

On applying for reimbursements

Unfortunately, direct Kela reimbursement cannot be processed at Orton, so the customer must apply for the reimbursement from Kela afterwards. The reimbursement application can be made electronically via the OmaKela website, filled out by hand and dropped in the nearest Kela office mailbox, or sent to: Kela, PO Box 10, 00056 KELA.

Which services are not reimbursable

  • Surgeries, treatments, and outpatient minor procedures (except for specialist dentists as stated above).
  • Examinations such as laboratory, X-ray, and ultrasound tests.

Effects on travel reimbursements

Kela reimburses the customer’s travel to private healthcare only if the care provided there is reimbursable by Kela. However, if the customer seeks private care using a payment commitment or service voucher issued by the wellbeing services county, the travel will be reimbursed. In this case, the customer needs proof for travel reimbursement (SV 67). The document must show that the provided care is based on the payment commitment or service voucher.
